It’s about your Priorities…
The holiday season is a wonderful time of year. It allows us to spend time with family, give gifts, and attend a number of events to celebrate the season. Unfortunately, the holiday season can also cause a great deal of stress. You can make this holiday season different. The choice is yours….it’s all about your priorities.
This holiday season, I want to encourage you to reflect on your priorities. What is truly important to you? For me, it is spending time with my people….my family and friends. I have learned too well that we have to cherish those we love because we are not promised tomorrow with them.
The Christmas of 1998 is one that I will always remember. I was a mother of two children and my mom had just received the diagnosis of cancer. She was given less than 6 months to live. It was important to her to buy gifts for my two children, her grandchildren, since this would be her last Christmas with us! My mom, dad, and I set out to achieve that goal for her. We went to the store, she got in a wheelchair, and we selected a few gifts for the grandchildren. My mom bought the kids toys, that we still have today, that were memorable. The gifts were just a vehicle for her to express her love to us. The most memorable part of that holiday was spending time with her.
That was the last Christmas we spent with my mom….as a whole family. While it was memorable, the lessons learned that holiday season, were more memorable. It taught me that we all have to choose our priorities in life. My priorities align with my values….faith, family, and education. Trust me, my priorities are not always evident. I’m human, and I don’t always hit the mark! I consistently strive to love my people well!! Don’t take those you love for granted…reflect on your habits today. Do they align with your values? Are your priorities evident to those around you? If not, make a change today.
My daughter, Morgan, has created a Black Friday gift giving guide. She loves to give gifts! I think it is her love language. If you enjoy giving gifts….check it out by clicking here.
Wishing you a blessed holiday season!!
